Along the beach, you will find many of the worlds best windsurf companies, that offer top-of-the-line equipment for rent. Each centre is stocked with the latest boards and sails of all sizes. The gear is always in great condition as the centers buy new gear for every
season.
For kite surfers, there are several rental companies to choose from, depending on your level of skill. However, each of the kite surf companies offer excellent rigs for rent, and very good instruction during supervised kiting sessions. Kite surfing lessons entail traveling by boat upwind about 400 meters to Kite Beach. This allows the instructors extra time to coach you while you sail downwind. The generally flat water is only about 1.5 meters deep and is perfect for lessons. The equipment used by the kite schools is the latest in design and technology, and is assigned to each student depending on the wind conditions. For your convenience, instruction is offered in several languages.
For the more advanced and adventurous wind or kite surfers, who want to explore the island a little, we know all of the best windy spots, and can take you there for a day trip either by car or by boat. The famous Isla de Coche is just a 20 minute boat ride away, where the wind is offshore, and the water is as flat as a mirror. The remote island of Cubagua is possibly the best kept kiting secret! With only a few fishermen on the island, the strong winds, and large bay (without other kiters) make it an ideal day trip.
Twenty-five kilometers long, the beach of La Restinga is the longest one on Margarita Island. This beach offers waves, and a constant onshore wind, and is ideal for the advanced kiter. The 25 minute (sometimes off-road) trip is through beautiful Macanao, and worth seeing all on its own. This is our favourite spot to kite, great waves, onshore wind, and seldom any other kiters. Perfect!
